Football fan hats - Football World Cup | Jonathan Knowles Photography

Getting into the spirit of this year’s football World Cup, Jonathan’s latest still life personal work is based around the makarapa hats that he found on a visit to Cape Town. The top supporter’s accessory, these modified, decorated miner’s hard hats are unique to South African football fans. They are sure to be prominent during the competition this summer, where the sounds, language, moves and styles of supporters in the stands are likely to be more colourful and creative than the action on the pitch.

Jonathan has shot six still life images of different makarapas, each in front of a national flag created with light.
